About Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is a highly developed teaching methodology, developed by BKS Iyengar, including the precise use of language, demonstration and teaching of specific points of action in a pose, individual correction and adjustment of students.
We work through the execution of various sequences of ASANAS or POSTURES, conducted in a PRECISE and CAREFUL way. The focus is placed on the correct ALIGNMENT within each posture. Safe, orderly systematic progressions of poses are utilized to develop the student’s ability. After the student has created steadiness in the postures, RHYTHMIC BREATHING TECHNIQUES or PRANAYAMA are introduced.
Iyengar Yoga uses props, such as blankets, blocks and straps to facilitate learning and adjust poses to an individual’s needs. The use of props helps to increase
• the confidence in the practitioner
• range of motion
• duration of staying in an asana
• subjective knowledge of accurate alignment.
Iyengar Yoga is also utilized to ease various ailments and stress.
